Heavy Metal- (NOT THE MUSIC KIND!) have been linked to many types of illnesses. While it is not possible to completely avoid heavy metals, there are foods we can eat to help detoxify heavy metals from our system.
Chelation (pronounced key-LAY-shun) refers to the act of removing heavy metals (including mercury) form the body, and can be done in various ways. Cilantro has been proven to chelate toxic metals from our bodies in a relatively short period of time. It is a powerful tissue cleanser. 2 tsp of this paste daily for three weeks is purportedly enough to increase the urinary excretion of mercury, lead, and aluminum, thus effectively removing these from our bodies.
Chelation Cilantro Pesto
4 cloves of Garlic
1/3 c Brazil Nuts
1/3 c Raw Sunflower Seeds
1/3 c Pumpkin Seeds
2 c Fresh Packed Cilantro
(Parsley works as well!)
2/3 c Flax Seed Oil or Extra Virgin Olive Oil
4 Tbs Lemon Juice
2 tsp Dulse (Kelp) Powder
OR 1/2 tsp liquid Dulse
Add cilantro, garlic, nuts, seeds, dulse, and lemon juice and olive oil, mix until blended into a paste.
Add a pinch of sea salt to taste and blend again.
Try freezing in ice cube trays for a quick proportioned pesto cube, add to pasta, soup, dip, etc.
