Why You Should Be Dry Brushing Daily

Updated: Dec 2, 2020

Dry brushing has been used to keep the body healthy for many centuries! It's an easy way to bring fresh blood to the surface of your skin and also helps sustain a youthful appearance. We recommend that anyone incorporate it into their daily routine. Dry brushing involves using a firm bristle brush over your body in upward sweeping motions. You can purchase various kinds of brushes, our favorites are this Sisal Bath Brush or this Body Scrub Mitt. We recommend a softer bristle when brushing the face, or if you’re elderly you can use a soft loofah pad over your entire body.

Ideally, dry brushing should be done before you take a shower. Start at your limbs and make your way to the center of the body using soft, smooth strokes – don't brush too hard – and be sure to brush upwards towards your heart. Brushing each section of your body around 10 times will stimulate blood flow so that your lymph can move freely. End your shower with cold water to close up your pores.

One benefit of drying brushing is lymphatic drainage. The lymphatic system transports lymph throughout the body and is a major part of the body’s immune system. Lymph vessels run just below the surface of the skin, and dry brushing will help stimulate the flow of lymph within the body. This is great for liver detoxification which comes with so many benefits, such as reducing the symptoms of hot flashes. Another awesome benefit is natural exfoliation. Dry brushing once a day loosens and removes dead skin cells – clearing out oil, dirt, unclogging pores & reducing the size of pores too! Cellulite can also be removed by dry brushing on a regular basis (along with healthy eating habits). This easy, self-care treatment is a great addition to your daily routine. It feels amazing and will leave your skin glowing and refreshed!
